Mary C. McCall Jr. (April 4, 1904 – April 3, 1986) was an American writer best known for her screenwriting. She was a charter member and the first woman president of the Writers Guild of America (then known as the Screen Writers Guild), serving from 1942 to 1944 and 1951 to 1952.

Jun 14, 2023 · In 1942 a screenwriter named Mary C. McCall Jr. was the first woman ever elected president of the predecessor group which was called the Screen Writers Guild (SWG). McCall had been involved in the idea of a labor collective for writers since the 1930s when she joined a group of other writers to form the original guild – the Screen Writers Guild.
McCall was born on April 4, 1904, in New York City, and got her start as a film writer in the 1930s when Warner Bros. hired her to collaborate on a script based on her novel Revolt.
