Mary O. Manchin, of Farmington, passed away peacefully Monday morning (May 12, 2014) at her residence. She was born October 30, 1922 in Rachel, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Gouzd. Mary was the devoted wife of 60 years to the late John Manchin, Sr., who preceded her in death on December 24, 2002.

Manchin was born in 1947 in Farmington, West Virginia, a small coal mining town, the second of five children of Mary O. (née Gouzd) and John Manchin. The name "Manchin" was derived from the Italian name "Mancini". His father was of Italian descent and his maternal grandparents were Czechoslovak immigrants.
Francis Gouzd passed away in Oakdale, Massachusetts. The obituary was featured in The Town Talk on October 31, 2010.
