It has a large central courtyard, long and spacious halls, murals depicting Indian epics and Hindu deities, and a collection of royal portraits and weapons.
Mattancherry Palace is a two-floored building with a courtyard and a temple in the centre. It was built by the Portuguese in 1555 as a gift to the Cochin Kingdom and later renovated by the Dutch and the British. The palace has murals of Hindu and Christian art on its walls and roof, depicting the stories of Ramayana, Krishna and Shiva.
