May 26, 2014 · Cowles rose to fame by playing villain Billy Clyde Tuggle on the ABC soap opera "All My Children," for which he was nominated for two Emmy Awards. The actor made Tuggle one of the most famous villains on the series, on which he appeared intermittently from 1977 until 1990, when his character set off what was thought to be a fatal explosion.
