Max Born, (born Dec. 11, 1882, Breslau, Ger.—died Jan. 5, 1970, Göttingen, W.Ger.), German physicist. He taught theoretical physics at the University of Göttingen from 1921 to 1933, when he fled to Britain. There he taught principally at the University of Edinburgh (1936–53).
