Oct 20, 2023 · On February 15, 1981, Mike Bloomfield was found dead in a car on a side street in San Francisco. He was 37. Somebody, perhaps a dealer, had dumped him there, not wanting to get involved. His body went unclaimed at the morgue for a time. This was certainly a sad finale for one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time.
Michael Bloomfield (July 28, 1943 – February 15, 1981) was an American musician, guitarist, and composer, born in Chicago, Illinois, who became one of the first popular music superstars of the 1960s to earn his reputation almost entirely on his instrumental prowess, since he rarely sang before 1969 and 1970.
Mike Bloomfield might be best known for his session work, especially with Bob Dylan. He played on several of Dylan’s albums, including Bringing It All Back Home, and Highway 61 Revisited.
