   • Being awarded the Segrave Trophy in 1958 for his outstanding contribution to British motorsport. Mike Hawthorn died on 22 January 1959, three months after retiring from racing. He was driving his Jaguar Mark I on the A3 road near Guildford, Surrey, when he lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. Police pronounced him dead at the scene.
