Enjoy fresh air and exercise as you explore the Zoo, connect with wildlife, and meet the animals! Special activities and experiences are offered, specially designed with the needs of seniors in mind.
The Milwaukee County Zoo is a place for laughter, learning, and community. Home to thousands of animals, guests of all ages have the unique opportunity to see animals they may not be able to see in the wild.
The Milwaukee County Zoo began in the 1890s as a miniature mammal and bird display in a barn at what is now Washington Park. By 1902, the Zoo had 23 acres of land and 800 animals. In 1937, when all parks went under the jurisdiction of the Milwaukee County Park Commission, the Zoo had grown to 38 acres.
Meet Our Animals. These lists are a representation of the animals in our care, which include over 2,200 mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, representing more than 340 species.
