May 2, 2024 · Mount Airy is a wonderful small town, also known as Mayberry, North Carolina, thanks to its connection with The Andy Griffith Show. Beyond attractions commemorating that storied TV series, Mount Airy is home to a lovely and walkable downtown, surrounded by incredible Yadkin Valley wineries, the iconic Pilot Mountain, and much more.
Mount Airy / ˈ m aʊ n t ər i / is a city within Surry County, in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 United States census, the city's population was 10,676, an increase of 288 (+2.8%) from the 2010 census count of 10,388. As of 2020, the city was one of the most populous municipalities in Surry County.

- Andy Griffith Museum. The Andy Griffith Museum is located next to the Andy Griffith Theater a mile from downtown Mount Airy. Many of Andy’s possessions are on display including artifacts from his long TV career ranging from Sherriff Andy Taylor on the Andy Griffith Show to his days as Matlock.
- TV Land Andy and Opie Statue. You can visit the TV Land statue of Andy and Opie in front of the Andy Griffith Museum for free. The bronze statue depicts Sheriff Andy Taylor and his son Opie walking to the fishing hole as they did in the show’s opening credits.
- Andy Griffith’s boyhood home. Andy Griffith’s boyhood home is privately owned so tours are not available. However, it is a vacation rental available for nightly rental.
