Aug 28, 2020 · Mount Auburn Cemetery is the first landscaped rural or “garden” cemetery in the United States, designed as a resting place and an attraction. It has a 125-foot central hill with panoramic views of Boston and Cambridge, a horticultural garden with over 5,500 trees, shrubs and plants from around the world, and a bird sanctuary. Some famous Bostonians lie buried in Mount Auburn, such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Harriet Lawrence Hemenway.
