NEIL CUTHBERT BIO. I am a playwright, film, and television writer. I grew up in New Jersey, received an MFA from Rutgers University, moved to New York and worked off Broadway, principally at the Ensemble Studio Theater, where many of my plays were produced and I served as the company’s literary manager.
Neil Cuthbert is a long-time member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, where he has written and produced plays such as The Soft Touch, The Perfect Stranger, and Preston, and screenplays for Hocus Pocus, Mystery Men, and Bar Play Night. He is also a screenwriter for hire and a literary manager for EST.
Hocus Pocus is a 1993 American fantasy comedy film directed by Kenny Ortega from a screenplay by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert, and a story by David Kirschner and Garris. It follows a villainous comedic trio of witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night.

Neil Cuthbert received his MFA in Playwriting from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, where his first play The Soft Touch (published by Samuel French) won the American College Theater Festival Award for Best New Play.
