Neuberg an der Mürz is a municipality in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in the Austrian state of Styria. Geography [ edit ] Neuberg lies in the upper valley of the Mürz at the foot of the Schneealpe northwest of Mürzzuschlag .
The Münster Neuberg is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (summer time), during the winter months you can visit it from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. As part of a guided tour, you can also visit the only completely preserved Gothic cloister in Styria. Already mentioned in documents in 1314, Neuberg can look back on an eventful history. Thriving mining and an iron and steel industry known far beyond the borders revitalized the region.
Neuberg Abbey is one of the few extant set of monastic buildings in Austria to have retained its medieval character to any great extent. The abbey was founded in 1327 as a filial monastery of Stift Heiligenkreuz by the Habsburg Duke Otto the Merry, who died here in 1339. It was suppressed in 1786 by Emperor Joseph II.
