Newmarket’s modern boundaries were created in 1971 from the town itself, and portions of the townships of King, East Gwillimbury, and Whitchurch ( see Whitchurch-Stouffiville ).

The Town of Newmarket is a town of 84,000 people (2016) in the centre of York Region in Ontario. It is halfway between Toronto and Barrie along Highway 11/Yonge Street. The surrounding towns include Aurora (south), Bradford (northwest), East Gwillimbury (north), Schomberg (west), and Uxbridge (east).
Visit the Pioneer Burying Ground just off Eagle Street. The cemetery is one of the first in the area and was established by St. Paul’s Church in the early 1800s. At least 120 of Newmarket’s earliest settlers are buried there, including William Roe and Dr. Christopher Beswick. Eat your way across town!
