The Arboretum Nature Area is 34 acres within the University of Michigan’s 123 acre Nichols Arboretum. Located between Geddes Rd. and the Huron River, there are entrances at Geddes Rd., Riverview Ct., Washington Heights, and the UM Medical Center lower lot (Lot M29) off Medical Center Dr. Parking is limited and often restricted at these entrances.
Nearly 3.5 miles of trails crisscross the Arb and connect all three of its entrances: at Nichols Drive, Geddes Road, and Washington Heights. The trails pass by or through important areas of the Arboretum such as the peony garden, Heathdale, Alex Dow Field, along the Huron River, the main valley, and others.
