The 27th Annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards were held on March 29, 2014 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. The event was hosted by Mark Wahlberg to promote Transformers: Age of Extinction, and was watched by over 5.033 million people. The "Orange Carpet" was set up in front of Galen Center on the sidewalks of Jefferson Boulevard.
The 2014 show took on an aesthetic of jungle wildlife and neon colors. The stage was dominated by a long and winding river of slime that extended into the audience, with neon/digital trees adorning the sides of the stage, with many neon lights and wires spread all across the stage.
This was the first show to introduce the golden Nickelodeon Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to individuals who helped to revolutionize the network, or individuals who have become cornerstones of childhood, fictional and non-fictional.
Leading up to the show, Wahlberg made bold claims about being "unslimeable". He continued to maintain his immunity throughout the show, often sliming celebrities who doubted him, including Pharrell Williams, Kayley Cuoco, and Jack Reynor. Eventually, though, Kevin Hart teamed up with Wahlberg's children to trick Mark into getting a well-deserved sliming.
