Maxwell Shane's credit reads: "Written for the screen and directed by." The film was shot on location in New Orleans, LA. Although the onscreen credits read "Based on the novel by Cornell Woolrich," "Nightmare" was a short story first published in Argosy Magazine in 1941 as "And So to Death" and written by Woolrich under the pseudonym William Irish.
