Novissima Solis is the thirteenth and final episode of the fifth season of Syfy's Van Helsing and the sixty-fifth of the series overall. This episode is the series finale.
The team finally faces the Dark One in a treacherous battle that will affect the fate of humanity.
With the Dark One's powers restored, Vanessa, Axel, Jack, Ivory, and Violt scramble for another plan following Bathory's death, who Axel blames for betraying them, but Jack insists that she was being controlled, and Vanessa proves it when she finds the Dark One's pentagram insignia on the back of Bathory's neck, which she intends to use to their advantage.
Dracula senses Vanessa's presence, who has forged a connection with the Dark One through Bathory's pentagram insignia, which she has carved out of Bathory and grafted onto her own arm. With this, Vanessa manages to get inside of Dracula's head to communicate with Olivia. Vanessa reveals that she can break through by fighting, but Olivia has tried and failed. When she asks about her son, Vanessa tells Olivia that she must regain control and that when Vanessa calls for her, she must be ready. Dracula then manages to regain control, wondering how is it Vanessa has gotten inside of her head. Realizing that Vanessa is using the mark, the Dark One pushes her out.
Vanessa reveals to Jack and Violet that the Dark One knows they're coming. Jack wants to cut the mark out of Vanessa now in order to prevent Dracula from seeing their moves, but Vanessa believes she can control it. Vanessa then reveals that they can still use the scroll. When she brought Bathory back from madness, their minds merged, meaning Vanessa can read the scroll. However, Jack fears what doing so will do to her. Vanessa assures her that she can control it.
Vice President Newton informs Vanessa, Axel, Jack, Ivory, and Violet that Lannister and his forces has used a state of emergency to corner off the White House, giving them a four block perimeter under their control. It should be a straight shot to the security tunnel, where they'll reach a checkpoint guarded by capitol police staff, who will see them through. Axel then informs Sgt. Weathers that she'll be in charge of protecting President Park, who enters, revealing to Vice President Eli that he's still alive.
Vanessa and Axel take lead and make their way to the checkpoint. Axel questions if Vanessa needs a weapon, but she reveals that she doesn't need one. Axel fears that the Dark One has an ace up her sleeve, but Vanessa replies that she has two in the form of Violet and Jack, who join them along with Ivory. They reach the checkpoint and are escorted to the tunnel by the capitol police staff. However, Dracula can sense their pretense and the danger they present. She says that mankind was supposed to be hers, but since she can't have them, neither can Vanessa. The Dark One then releases a wave of dark energy that turns every human within the walls into a vampire.
Vanessa, Axel, Jack, Ivory, and Violet fight their security detail as President Park and Aaron flee from the attacking vampires, Vice President Eli among them. They fortunately manage to get to a room, where they barricade the door.

The team prepare for the final confrontation, Vanessa will use the scroll to weaken the Dark One while Jack (Nicole Muñoz) and Violet (Keeya King) drain her and lock her power in the locket. A simple plan so simple the Dark One saw it coming.
