Dec 5, 2019 · The courthouse was a mainstay of the county throughout the early 20 th Century, and in 1947 one of its most explosive cases drew national coverage, stirring the city into a fervor. On March 15, 1947 Beulah Louise Overell and George Gollum watched shoreside as Beulah’s parents and their boat were blown to smithereens.
1960: The Modern, Aqua Courthouse Annex. When the red-brick Victorian courthouse building was torn down in 1958, it was replaced by a structure that also reflected the culture of its times: the International Style courthouse annex, on the site that’s now Heritage Square park in front of the Orange County Regional History Center.
By 1863, six years after B. F. Caldwell’s gift of four acres, the county raised enough money to build a two-story log cabin: Orange County’s first official courthouse, dedicated during the Civil War under the Confederate flag. Each story of the building contained only one room.

As well as being a historically significant building, the Orange County Courthouse was home to one of the twentieth century’s most famous murder cases. This courthouse is where the famous serial killer Ted Bundy was tried for the murder of Kimberly Leach.
