Jun 2, 2020 · The Observatory of ‘Palais Longchamp’ A scientific attraction accessible to all. The observatory is considered the oldest scientific building in Marseille and was housed on the plateau Longchamp at the heart of the gardens in 1864. It has been equipped with the biggest telescope in the world (roughly 80cm in diameter) for a century.
Palais Longchamp, a great place to visit and watch the fountains. We took the metro from the port to the nearby station, ideal to know if on a cruise. And it took about 5-10 minutes to walk, first impressions was a massive wow!!! Great to watch the water flowing and fountains gushing and the architecture was stunning.

Le Palais Longchamp a abrité, de 1855 à 1987, le grand Zoo de Marseille. Il fut le premier zoo de Province. Les vestiges des cages restent encore visibles dans le parc, ainsi que le bâtiment de la Girafe. Certains animaux du zoo, à leur mort, ont été conservés au Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle, situé dans une des ailes du Palais Longchamp.
