The park is located on the site of the Château de Saint-Cloud, a residence of royal and imperial families from the 16th century. After Napoleon III declared war on the Prussians, the site was occupied by a Prussian force which used the high outcropping to shell Paris. Counter-fire from the French caused the building to burn on 13 October 1870.
The Parc de Saint Cloud is just across the Seine from Paris, but is far less crowded than the many city parks it overlooks. Once the site of a major chateau, what remains now are the expansive grounds and fountains. A mixture of formal and natural gardens, there are places where you can relax in the style that you prefer.

Feb 29, 2020 · The Parc de Saint-Cloud is located in the western suburb of Paris overlooking the river Seine. Its official name if Domaine National de Saint-Cloud and is owned by the French state. The park covers an area of 460 hectares, making it one of the largest in the Île de France region.
