Parley Parker Pratt Sr. (April 12, 1807 – May 13, 1857) was an early leader of the Latter Day Saint movement whose writings became a significant early nineteenth-century exposition of the Latter Day Saint faith.

Parley P. Pratt. In the late summer of 1830, Parley P. Pratt, then 23 years old, came across a copy of the Book of Mormon. A native of New York, Pratt had moved to Ohio but felt spiritually prompted to return to New York and preach. The Book of Mormon thrilled him.
The extraordinary life of Parley P. Pratt began two centuries ago this month. In 1853, a boyhood friend requested from Parley, then age 46, a “history of [his] life.” Parley responded that a full account “would overload the mail” and would seem “far more strange … than the thousand volumes of modern fiction.”

He married Thankful Halsey in 1827. He was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in September 1830 and was ordained an elder the same day.
Parley P. Pratt wrote A Voice of Warning over a two-month period while on a mission to New York. This book was the most important of all Mormon missionary tracts of the 19th century and was eventually published in more than 30 English editions and several non-English versions.
