Character actor Corley began his career on stage, but branched out into TV and film, with a regular appearance in the CBS series Murphy Brown and Hill Street Blues. On the big screen he appeared in films such as Coming Home (1978), True Confessions (1981) and Against All Odds (1984).
Gravel-voiced, heavy-set actor, known for his portrayals of tough yet wisely benevolent characters, Pat Corley was perhaps best known as Phil, the all-knowing bartender/restaurateur, whom he played for eight years on the CBS sitcom, "Murphy Brown" (1988-1996).
Cleo Pat Corley was an American character actor who garnered fame for portraying the bar owner Phil in the CBS sitcom ‘Murphy Brown’ from 1988 to 1998 as well as for playing Chief Coroner Wally Nydorf in the television drama ‘Hill Street Blues’ between 1982 and 1986.
