The story is based on Stefan Zweig's 1929 novel Widerstand der Wirklichkeit (translated into English as Journey into the Past) and stars Rebecca Hall, Alan Rickman, Richard Madden, and Maggie Steed.
Patrice Leconte was born on 12th November 1947 in Paris, France, although he grew up in Tours. He began making films for his own amusement from the age of 15 and enrolled in the elite French film school IDHEC (Institut des hautes études cinématographiques) in 1967.
