Patrick Martin Lovato (August 10, 1960 - June 22, 2013) was an American engineer & musician. He was the father of Demi Lovato.
Patrick Lovato was Demi's father. He was of Mexican (Spanish and Native American) ancestry; his family was from New Mexico.
He and Demi's mother Dianna De La Garza divorced in 1994. In an interview with Star magazine, Patrick stated that they divorced because their long-distance relationship was not working[citation needed]. However, both Demi and Dianna have alleged that he was abusive, and Demi has suggested in their music that he abandoned the family. After the divorce, Patrick travelled to New Mexico to live with his father, Frank[citation needed].
's song "World Of Chances" from their album Here We Go Again talks about how they constantly give they father chances, but he continuously lets them down [citation needed].
Demi's song "For The Love Of a Daughter" from their 2011 album Unbroken (and originally written for Here We Go Again reflects their strained relationship with their dad due to his alcholism.
Lovato passed away due to cancer on June 22, 2013 at the age of 52. Demi Lovato had a message for their fans and his loved ones after the death of their father. They also tweeted a photo of themself and their father the next day on June 25. Demi's sister, Dallas Lovato also tweeted about their father's death on June 23, 2013. Demi missed a photo call for The X Factor over the weekend. Show creator and fellow judge Simon Cowell expressed his own support on Twitter: "My thoughts are with you Demi." he wrote. Miley Cyrus and other friends of Demi also tweeted their supports for Patrick.
After Patrick's death, Demi dedicated the song "Father" from her 2015 album Confident to him.
