Biography — Benoit Aquin. For over three decades, Benoit Aquin has conducted photographic research on the modes of human existence and the tragic convergence of environmental and spiritual upheavals. At the turn of the 21st century, he began a series of projects of a predominantly ecological nature.

BENOIT AQUIN: When I was young my father ordered the Time-Life Art/Photography books, and I still vividly remember some of the pictures and they continue to capture my imagination, especially Robert Frank’s. I don’t think I was aware of the full creative process because I was too young, but my appreciation must have been very intuitive.

The McCord Museum presents Haiti: Chaos and Daily Life, by photographer Benoit Aquin. In his 40 oversized colour photos, Aquin offers a vision of Haiti today and takes an honest look at the day-to-day lives of Haitians as they cope with the chaos caused by the January 2010 earthquake.
