In un angolo di Piazza Tasso, ad incrocio tra il Corso Italia e Via Pietà, è possibile ammirare la statua dedicata all’omonimo poeta sorrentino. Torquato Tasso, celebre per il suo poema epico “Gerusalemme liberata” (1581) , nacque a Sorrento nel 1544. La realizzazione della statua, fin dal primo momento, incontrò non pochi problemi.
