Welcome to the Polly Hill Arboretum. The Polly Hill Arboretum, a Martha’s Vineyard horticultural and botanical landmark, was developed by the legendary horticulturist, Polly Hill (1907-2007).
Our founder, legendary horticulturist, Polly Hill, who died April 25, 2007 at the age of 100, was a practical gardener who learned from trial and error. At the age of 50 with patience and determination she decided to grow an arboretum by sowing a seed.

The Polly Hill Arboretum, a 70-acre public garden, contains the results of Polly Hill’s fifty years of horticultural experimentation. Rare trees and shrubs from around the world are set among stone walls, meadows, and fields.

Located at 795 State Road, West Tisbury MA. The Visitor Center and Plant Sales are open seasonally, reopening on Saturday, May 25 2024.
Docent led tours are available May through August on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-10am and 10-11am. Check our programs calendar for the schedule of additional Arboretum guided tours. Topography is level but grounds and pathways can be uneven in places. All public spaces are handicapped accessible. Thanks to a generous gift we have a lightweight, maneuverable wheelchair available. To us the wheelchair, call (508-693-9426) to reserve it in advance of your visit. Please note that a companion is needed to push the wheelchair.
