Ras al-Khaimah, constituent emirate of the United Arab Emirates. Ruled by the Qasimi dynasty since the early 18th century, it has a history long intertwined with that of Sharjah emirate. It became formally independent of Sharjah in 1921, and in 1972 it became part of the United Arab Emirates.
