Brief Synopsis. Read More. In the 1950s, Mickey Stern, a wildly naïve 17 year old kid, discovers the magical Fire Island for the first time. There, he meets his true love, Leah, and courts her. Mickey wants the American Dream--to wear pinstripes as a New York Yankee, to find riches and fame and love, and to fight the "Commies.
