The First Battle of St. Albans was the first battle of the Wars of the Roses. Richard, 16th Earl of Warwick, played a pivotal role in it. Warwick led his men through the back streets and alleyways of St. Albans. In doing so he breached the defences of the Kings army. This led to a chaotic scene.

Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick was born on 22nd November 1428, probably at Bisham, Berkshire, and was the firstborn son of Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury, himself the son of Ralph Neville, Earl of Westmorland and Joan Beaufort, illegitimate daughter of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, the third surviving son of King Edward III.
