Feb 20, 2017 · Richard Schickel, the long-time film critic for Time magazine who also wrote 37 books and directed a number of documentaries on film subjects, died on Saturday in Los Angeles of complications from a series of strokes. He was known for his blunt and succinct reviews, his historical and theoretical knowledge, and his passion for film history and culture.
