Richmond, California. American World War II Heritage City. During World War II, Richmond, California played a pivotal role in the home front effort. It’s bustling port, shipyards, and industrial infrastructure became the epicenter of U.S. naval production and repair on the west coast.
History. Location. The City of Richmond is located 16 miles northeast of San Francisco, directly across San Francisco Bay. Richmond is on a peninsula separating San Francisco Bay (on the south) and San Pablo Bay (to the north), and the city has 32 total miles of shoreline.
