Sep 24, 1993 · The famous Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey "Clown College" is making its own kind of history - moving its campus from Florida to the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wis., hometown of the five Ringling brothers and the original site of their circus' winter quarters.
A special celebrating Barnum & Bailey's Clown College on its twentieth anniversary. The special, taped at the school's 23-acre site in Florida, provides a rare look at the rigid training each fledgling clown must undergo to receive a Clown College sheepskin. Also included is a tribute to Lou Jacobs.
In 1968, with the craft of clowning seemingly neglected and with many of the clowns in their 50s, he established the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. Circus Williams, a circus in Europe was purchased for $2 million just to have its star animal trainer, Gunther Gebel-Williams, for the core of his revamped circus.
