The Ruhr University Bochum (German: Ruhr-Universität Bochum, RUB) is a public research university located in the southern hills of the central Ruhr area, Bochum, Germany. It was founded in 1962 as the first new public university in Germany after World War II. Instruction began in 1965.

The Ruhr University Bochum- an international university. For globally networked research and teaching as well as internationally oriented study opportunities, our departments and institutions cooperate in many active partnerships and exchange information with universities and institutes all over the world.
Ruhr University Bochum mainly offers Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes that build on each other. Exceptions are the study programmes offered by the medical, law and, in part, the two theological faculties, which conclude with a state or ecclesiastical examination.
The UA Ruhr is an alliance between Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University, and the University of Duisburg-Essen, the three largest universities in Germany’s thriving Ruhr area. Each of our institutions has a strong tradition of breaking down walls between disciplines.
