In 1992, the group founded the H.O.R.D.E. festival as an alternative to others such as Lollapalooza, along with other bands such as Phish and Spin Doctors. Blues Traveler began recording their third album, Save His Soul.

That same year, he released his own band ’ s album, produced by Todd Rundgren and titled The World ’ s Most Dangerous Party. Shaffer told New York magazine contributor Michael Stone that the assimilation and appreciation of music is more than just a job or a sound.

John, however, remained in the wheelchair for more than 18 months, until New Year's Eve 1993. John's weight was a big factor in how fast he recovered. His first 'standing' full length show was at CBGB's on February 21, 1994.
