It is a lovely beach, dog friendly (North road). We went in July. Water was cold but very clear. The sand sparkled in places in a magical way; probably from the last tiny glass remains.

The lifeboat George Elmy has a special place in the hearts of Seaham people. The lifeboat and her brave crew were lost when she capsized returning from a rescue in 1962 with the loss of all but one of the 10 people aboard. Seaham's newest gateway road has been named in honours of the crew of the George Elmy Lifeboat.
