On February 1, 2022, it was announced that ABC had given a cast-contingent pilot order to Will Trent, which was a crime drama based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling book series, from Liz Heldens, the The Big Leap creator and Dan Thomsen, who both worked together on Fox’s The Passage. Filming
Production was cleared in April 2022.Filming later ran from October 10, 2022, and concluded on February 20, 2023. Filming primarily took place in Georgia. The production crew and the series’ cast decided to set their camp in the Eagle Rock Studios at Best Friend Road in Gwinnett County. Some parts of the first season were also taped in California, specifically Los Angeles. Production on the second season also began in April 2023.
