Seth Kurland was born in Los Angeles, California. He attended Fairfax High School where he participated in drama productions and was on the tennis team.Kurland then attended UCLA where he earned a bachelor's degree in Theatre.
Kurland wrote for the sitcom Friends from 1996-2000. He created the short-lived 2002 sitcom, Imagine That (TV series). Kurland was a writer and producer on the sitcoms Melissa & Joey from 2010-2015 and Speechless (TV series) from 2016-2019.
