It was produced by Nero studio head Seymour Nebenzal who later produced Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse. Other titles were given to the film before " M " was chosen; Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder ( A City Searches for a Murderer ) and Dein Mörder sieht Dich an ( Your Murderer Looks at You ). [21]

A cosmopolitan producer who joined SIMPP toward the end of the war, Seymour Nebenzal, was actually a Jewish native of New York, but entered films in Berlin and was commonly thought of as a European. He founded Nero-Film in the mid-1920s, and produced the classic thriller from Fritz Lang, M (1931).
