Synopsis. In 1989, John Shaft II (Samuel L. Jackson) (a private investigator), his wife Maya Babanikos (Regina Hall), and his infant son John "JJ" Shaft Jr. survive an assassination attempt by drug lord Pierro "Gordito" Carrera (Isaach De Bankolé).
