Sheldon Mayer American comic book writer, artist, and editor Sheldon Mayer was born on 1 April 1917, in New York City. Shelly Mayer's first comic artwork was created when he was an assistant for several New York newspaper cartoonists, including Ving Fuller, between 1932 and 1935.

Jun 18, 2012 · In my long-ago youth, Sheldon Mayer was one of my favorite cartoonists. I was aware that he was also an editor of All-American Comics, Flash comics, and All-Star comics. This latter title introduced the first superhero team, the Justice Society. It included the likes of the Flash, the Green Lantern, the Spectre, etc.

In the fifth issue (Summer, 1945), The Three Mouseketeers,Bulldog Drumhead,McSnurtle the Turtleand all the other features were written and drawn by Sheldon Mayer, making it, by most accounts, the most desirable issue of that title from the point of view of a modern collector. In 1948, Mayer decided to give up editing and go back to his first love.
