This project will be a look at Shippensburg’s history and development through maps and narrative. Shippensburg is the oldest community in the Cumberland Valley and second oldest west of the Susquehanna River. It was originally settled in 1730 when 12 Scotch-Irish families built cabins along Burd Run.
