Shirley Booth (August 30, 1893 – October 16, 1980) was an American actress. She was born Marjory Ford in Brooklyn, New York. Her long career on Broadway started in 1920. She won three Tony Awards. She starred in both the stage and movie versions of Come Back, Little Sheba and won a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award.

Oct 16, 1992 · Booth made only four more films subsequently, the most noteworthy of which was Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker (1958), in which she was a trend-setting Dolly Gallagher Levi. Two of her later Broadway hits, The Time of the Cuckoo and Desk Set, were adapted for the screen, but in both instances the Shirley Booth role went to Katharine Hepburn.
