Apr 3, 2024 · Sigourney Weaver (born October 8, 1949, New York City, New York, U.S.) is an American actress who has played an eclectic range of characters but is perhaps best known for her portrayals of strong independent women, notably Ellen Ripley, the no-nonsense resourceful heroine in the landmark science-fiction film Alien (1979) and its sequels.

Although best known for her role in the Alien franchise, Weaver has fostered a prolific filmography, appearing in more than 60 films. In 1981, she starred alongside William Hurt in the neo-noir Eyewitness. Her next role was opposite Mel Gibson in the Peter Weir –directed The Year of Living Dangerously (1982). [8]
