Sioux City ( / suː /) is a city in Woodbury and Plymouth counties in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 85,797 in the 2020 census, making it the fourth-most populous city in Iowa. [3] The bulk of the city is in Woodbury County, of which it is the county seat, though a small northern portion is in Plymouth County.
- Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. While charting the new lands acquired by the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark expedition passed through what is now Sioux City in the summer of 1804.
- Sioux City Public Museum. In 2011, this local institution moved into a sleek modern building downtown. Until that time the Sioux City Public Museum had been housed in the 23-room Peirce Mansion (1893), which it continues to manage, along with the Sergeant Floyd River Museum, which we’ll talk about later.
- Sioux City Art Center. With a formidable collection that has taken shape since the 1930s, the Sioux City Art Center is in an award-winning modern building that opened in 1997.
- Sergeant Floyd Monument. Sioux City is the burial place of a young member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Charles Floyd (1782-1804). He died on the upstream voyage, mostly likely from appendicitis, and was buried at the place that would become Sioux City.
- Visit Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is the best place to visit for those looking for entertainment. The casino has many slot machines, as well as numerous tables to gamble at.
- Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is located on the right side of the Missouri River and is easy to access. The center’s animating and interactive display of the journey to the west of Lewis and Clark, which means you will be able to engage in a variety of entertainment while learning about the history of the area and more.
- Sioux City Railroad Museum. Sioux City Railroad Museum is situated at the site of an operating train yard that has been converted into a museum. The museum is home to preserved rail lines as well as repair shops.
- Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center. One of the best fun things to do in Sioux city for nature lovers is visiting the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center. Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center is situated on a stunning site that offers both outdoor and indoor spaces for visitors to view wildlife.

Apr 18, 2024 · Sioux City, city, seat (1856) of Woodbury county, northwestern Iowa, U.S. It lies on the Missouri River (bridged to South Sioux City, Nebraska) at the influx of the Big Sioux and Floyd rivers, where Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska meet.
Sioux City is proud of its frontier history and you can find markings all over town dedicated to the western exploration done by Lewis and Clark. The Sioux City metropolitan area (Siouxland) covers portions of three US states; it is primarily in Iowa, but extends westward into South Dakota (North Sioux City) and Nebraska (South Sioux City).
