The reason I love song machine in particular though, is even though there was a bit of theming throughout the album, they didnt have to adhere to a strict theme. They could do what they wanted and experiment how they wanted, and it created a sound that truly encapsulated Gorillaz for me.

Not throwing other albums under the bus, as an OG fan I found song machine captured the spirit of the first 2 albums quite well, albeit in a modernized way. It felt like Gorillaz simplified the formula and went back to their roots. I also appreciated that the cartoon characters were in the forefront again.
