Mar 23, 2019 · By 1926 the ownership of the school was transferred from the Texas Convention to the Southern Baptist Convention. Consequently, the seminary made the convention's articles of faith, "The Baptist Faith and Message," its own. Revised in 1963, these articles continue to serve as the seminary's confessional statement.
Oct 18, 2022 · After Hemphill was pressured out of the post in 2003, to be replaced by Paige Patterson, the enrollment decline picked up steam. Southwestern’s enrollment took a hit after Dilday was fired in 1994 but bounced back under the genial leadership of Ken Hemphill, who succeeded him.
There must be a new Baptist seminary. Carroll persuaded Baylor to give up its own new theological seminary to make possible the establishment of Southwestern Seminary. Carroll had largely created Baylor’s seminary, serving as its dean, raising its funds, and building its excellent faculty and curriculum.
