Claims of incompetence, fraud, and conspiracy in both companies were made. The Foreign Mines Development Company began legal action to sell the property to recover mortgage debt on September 7, 1909. Stanford Wallace Austin was appointed receiver of the Trona Company.

Stafford Wallace Austin and Wife Mary Hunter Austin. Stafford Wallace Austin brought the Trona chemical plant out of bankruptcy after he was appointed as the receiver buy the court. Here is a short history with pictures of his time in Trona.
We know his name and dates - Stafford Wallace Austin, b. 1860, d. 1931 - and that he was the husband of one of the most famous former residents of the Owens Valley. However, while considerable information is readily available about Mary Austin, it's hard to get concrete details about Wallace (as Mary called him).
