At the same time, the Starman has returned to seek Jenny Hayden and their child. He clones the dead photographer's body and finds his son, whose name is Scott and is living in an orphanage. George Fox has decided that the Starman's initial visit was a reconnaissance mission for a potential invasion, and believes that he will return.
The sphere glows while he sleeps and an alien, the eponymous "Starman," enters the earth's atmosphere and observes Scott. Paul photographs an erupting volcano in a helicopter, but it crashes and he is killed. The "Starman" transforms into Paul, taking his clothes and camera. He rescues the helicopter pilot just before the volcano erupts completely.
Some 15 years after an alien was stranded briefly on Earth, he returns to rejoin the son he left behind and to search for the woman he fell in love with. He assumes the identity and likeness of photojournalist Paul Forrester, whose dead body lies undiscovered in a remote area due to a helicopter crash.
