Dirty Three are an Australian instrumental rock band, consisting of Warren Ellis (violin and bass guitar), Mick Turner (electric and bass guitars) and Jim White (drums), which formed in 1992. [2] Their 1996 album Horse Stories was voted by Rolling Stone as one of the top three albums of the year.

Ocean Songs is the fourth major album by Australian rock band Dirty Three, released in March 1998 by Touch and Go Records. It was recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago during August and September 1997. Its cover was designed by guitarist Mick Turner. David Grubbs plays piano and harmonium on some tracks.

Mar 2, 2012 · As ever, Ellis's intersong chat was a contrast to their music ("this song is about going away on holiday, coming home and finding out that all your friends have gone and died"), heightening its strange emotional power. Yet one of Ellis' rambles seemed to suggest that The Dirty Three were in a sticky situation.
Dirty Three's Whatever You Love, You Are, for instance, more or less continues the approach of preceding albums like Horse Stories or Ocean Songs - Turner and White create the atmospheric foundation on guitar and drums, whilst Warren Ellis plays his little heart out on his violin - but for those of us who find the unique sadness of Dirty Three ...
